For Mulder, life is changing every day, both personally and professionally. He felt the need to search for the truth before, but now that need id more pronounced due to Scully. He finally realizes that he's been fumbling with his emotions, not quite able to express them and knows he needs to change that. He wants more between them, he can't ignore his love for her, can't hide it. Now that he has finally revealed to her how he feels (in the movie) she has the power to hurt him worse than ever and he is afraid of that. She has an amazing mind, both understanding of him and kind in a way he's never known, she is his everything. His life is changing, he is both closer to the truth and to love, he can't quite believe it, it is like a dream.
