Mulder song. We think it is those who have no scars, who don’t let go and take risks that are cool. But it is the opposite. Mulder takes risks, he lets go, though his heart has many scars to show for it. He doesn’t care what others think, takes the chance of sorrow and ridicule that comes with his quest. He has to be tough because of his quest, he can’t stand on the sidelines and watch. Strength may be thought of as someone who can get by on their own, but true strength is being able to admit when you need help, to lean on someone and let them lean on you, you will take the fall for them. People might think him weak, unable to resist any little piece of information, any scrap of a clue. But he goes after them because he is so consumed by the idea that there is something out there and he is willing to give everything up for it. This can also be seen as his love for Scully. He’s willing to do anything for her. There’s no point in living if he can’t love her and if he can’t find the truth. He wants to be so much more than her partner and there is no way that can happen if he doesn’t take the chance.
